Pen BBS 178 – Rose Quartz

Clairefontaine Triomphe Paper
  • Colour: A light, warm pink with a yellow-brown undertone.
  • Special Attributes:
    • Shade: Why yes indeed!
    • Sheen: None.
    • Shimmer: No.
  • Watercolour usage: It bleeds out fairly well when water is applied and is so naturally transparent (look at all the pencil lines that you can see as clear as day!), that it can definitely be used for light colouring.
  • Harkens to mind: Violet blush poppies, rose quartz (aptly named), and old dusty Victorian Rose.
  • Similar to: Light like J. Herbin Bouquet d’Atan, but peachier like Kobe 54.
  • Expense (USD): Unavailable as of 2022.
  • Example: A Victorian lady and a Victorian poem for a Victorian pink.

Verdict

I have had a rough time capturing this colour. In a scan, it is washed out and very warm; by camera, it is much cooler and pinker; in life it is closer to the camera version (I need to get a better scanner or…figure out how to use a scanner).

It really appears to be too light for writing, but I enjoy is a lot and keep my Kaweco Perkeo inked up with it. I mean, just look at the shading it gets with a medium nib! Gorgeous. But if light inks are bothersome, this is not the ink to chose.

In drawing, it is best used without pencil. But, wow, it is gorgeous.
