Ink

Herbin Rouge d’Orient

  • Colour: A very deep cool red.
  • Special Attributes:
    • Shade: Yes, a decent amount.
    • Sheen: None.
    • Shimmer: No.
  • Watercolour Usage: This ink never stops working with water. I added a little bit of water and the whole drawing got ruined by a cloud of red. So I did another drawing where I used water incredible sparingly. If one wants a large area with a lot of beautiful red, this is the ink for that.
  • Harkens to Mind: Fresh blood, carmine lipstick, rubies
  • Similar to: It’s not as brown as Robert Oster’s Astorquiza Rot, and lacks the sheen of Colorverse Hubble. It’s a very nice, basic, non-changing red.
  • Expense: $32/50ml as of 2022.
  • Example: A washed out attempt at drawing a nameless but lovely woman and then another attempt at drawing a woman that was labelled simply as “Femme italienne.”

Verdict

I really love this ink for writing, but hated the experience of drawing with it. It would be my favourite red if Colorverse Hubble weren’t so tempting with the gold sheen (Which I promise exists).
