Vinta Blue Floss Perya

on Tomoe River paper
  • Colour: A beautiful light, warm blue that can sometimes be purple if you really want it to.
  • Special Attributes:
    • Shade: Quite a decent amount, but good luck getting that purple to come out with anything smaller than a paintbrush. A bit comes out in a flex nib and a broad, but the drama comes with the paintbrush.
    • Sheen: No.
    • Shimmer: No.
  • Watercolour Usage: It’s good for writing, but not so good for using with water in art. I added water around the “The Sound and the Fury” written on the shirt there and, you can see there is no real light transitioning to speak of. You can see there are loads of hard edges. And my pencil marks are still entirely visible.
  • Harkens to mind: Tears and rain. It just looks like a poetically sad colour to me.
  • Similar to: Seems a less grey/green version of Sailor Studio 224. It’s quite a soft colour, and I’ve seen on many an internet review that it’s considered ‘too light for writing.’ I must keep getting oddly mixed bottles then.
  • Expense (USD): $12.50/30ml as of 2022.
  • Example: I kind of call it my Ian Curtis blue. Why do I do this? I’m not sure. Blue eyes and a touch of sad poetry?
Tomoe River paper again. If you squint, you can see the purple.

Verdict

Top 5 favourite inks. I have it inked constantly in a FPR Himalaya B and a Hondian 523 EF.
