Wheel of the Year

♈︎ 22

19 April

An awful video of the moon being amazing last night. Cellphones are terrible with the moon, but I like the feeling I get when I watch this. A nice way to end Aries season, I think.

18 April

I made a floor sitting cushion. A zafu of sorts. Used up all those buckwheat hulls I bought. I’m thinking of embroidering a cover for it, but that seems like a big job.

17 April

A winter rose in spring? My it has been a cold one, hasn’t it? The Camellia japonica usually blooms in February. I think this represents the year so far in the gardening department anyway.

16 April

The full moon in Libra tonight. I went out and got this photo of the gorgeous goddess as she rose about the trees. No matter how many full moons I watch rise, I am always in awe of the beauty.

15 April

This year the white lilac will blossom. The purple and white alternate year-to-year.

14 April

A new recipe today: some kind of millet risotto.

13 April

More little sprouts popping up! Still no sign from the Ethiopian brown chili pepper, but the poppies, tomatoes, and honeywort are pretty pleased so far.

12 April

Something amazing has happened in the greenhouse! The Moonwort that I planted two years ago is flowering. I need to get it to a bigger pot immediately. I knew it took a season to get acclimated but I lost all the labels for my plants in the last greenhouse accident and had no clue what this was. I’m glad I was patient.

11 April

A video of Lucy saying good morning for today. I actually had to go in to the city today, which is never really welcome, but often necessary. So I prefer to remember this moment.

10 April

I’ve been indoors playing Elden Ring for the past few freezing raining days. But I guess I can’t force interesting nature photographs to happen every day. That’s my problem. I make a journal-style post for my future self to look back on and I worry about making it interesting enough…

08 April

Some Myosotis to brighten up the dreary spring. “April showers” are great; but April hailstorms aren’t so welcome.

07 April

A foggy view of the thinning piece of forest I get to see each day.

06 April

It suddenly became very cold again. I always misjudge the “last frost of the year.” There’s going to be a lot of work to do in a short period of time in the garden.

05 April

I adore my Calendula. It’s always in bloom and happy.

04 April

Now that we’ve removed the cherry laurel, perhaps the blueberry bush with be able to thrive. It looks pretty happy so far!

03 April

The Sweet Violets are peppering the garden. The sight of them is so welcome. Especially when the temperature dips back down to near freezing for a couple of days.

02 April

Little Spring babies of all walks (crawls?) of garden life are showing up.

01 April

White rabbits!

The greenhouse is up for the third time. Let’s hope survival is in the books this time.

31 March

A major survivor in the garden is this amazing Meadowsweet. After many failed attempts to grow any, I got one seed to sprout. The plant has survived through all sorts of trauma since then, from the greenhouse falling on it to violent wind storms out in the open. I’m proud of this one.

30 March

Six years ago, I got married. We were in Hong Kong, a place so incredibly different than the coastal forest we haunt now. It’s hard to believe that such a time in my life existed at all, but it was so fantastic.

29 March

A little bee that I saved from the greenhouse let me do a photoshoot.

28 March

I acquired some Libyan Desert Glass today. Sometimes you just want a piece of mystery tektite to feel a bit more like an Egyptian king.

27 March

Last night, we had the first fire of the year, Lucy was very pleased as usual. This is one of her favourite places to be. It was also the first night I saw any bats this year.

26 March

The tree that fell and damaged much of the garden this January has left us with some interesting opportunities. We have removed a cherry laurel and made some room to re-erect the greenhouse. I need that greenhouse! It’s pretty destroyed, but we’ll try to mend it.

25 March

Took my Kodak Brownie box cameras out for a little photoshoot. It’s about time I load them up again and take some more shots.

24 March

Caribbean Calcite. My most beloved crystal orb. It is like a planet, with all these trenches and beaches. I can stare at it for such a long time.

23 March

This is what happens when you put frozen film inside an Instax camera and don’t wait for it to thaw. The effect is fun, the explosion of developing medium was not so fun.

22 March

Every year since I’ve planted them, the daffodils have come up at the end of winter. They always remind me of Warsawa in April. Commemorating the Ghetto Uprising in 1943 (19 April).

21 March

The seaberry bushes are waking up for the year, and looking happy. I think this year may be the year they actually flower. Wouldn’t that be lovely? I would love to finally be able to make some mors.
